I, unfortunately, am anything but a knowledgeable scholar. I only had by chance some opportunities to witness the development of this revolutionary discipline as an enthusiastic outsider who was profoundly influenced by it.

This all is now history. However, building on a tradition of two instances, you may rightly expect me to open my remarks today again with a theorem. Indeed I shall do so but it will not bear my name. It can be traced back to Humberto Maturana, the Chilean neurophysiologist, who a few years ago, fascinated us with his presentation on “autopoiesis”, the organization of living things.

Rozšiřujeme interaktivní koncept vzorců vzájemného partnerského chování a přidáváme behaviorální a subjektivní rozměry a popisujeme specifické procesy, které spouštějí a udržují partnerská nedorozumění.

000002085 520__ $$aHow does the spouse of a person with depression take part in constructing narratives of depression in couple therapy? In this study we examined couples’ ways of co-constructing narratives of depression in couple therapy. Three couple therapy processes were chosen for the study, one spouse in each couple having been referred to an outpatient clinic for treatment for his/her depression. Four sessions from each systemic couple therapy process (Jones & Asen, 2000) were analyzed using narrative analysis. According to our findings, couples coconstructed narratives of depression, each in their own way. It is crucial to focus not only on the patient’s individual narrative of depression, but also on the depressed spouse’s narrative as an interactive part of the non-depressed spouse’s narrative, and a shared narrative created by the spouses about depression.

Bateson’s team began with an interest in how the identity and functioning of self regulating systems was maintained through mechanisms of information, control and feedback. This work foreshadowed and gave momentum to the development of family therapy, with several members of the original research group later forming the initial schools of family therapy.
