What The Frogs Eye Tells The Frogs Brain / Maturana, Humberto -- Lettvin, Jy -- McCulloch, W.S. -- Pitts, W.H.

In: Corning, William C., Balaban, Martin: The Mind: „Biological Approaches to its Functions“. Interscience Publishers. - s. 233-258. - 1968

What are the consequences of this work? Fundamentally, it shows that the eye speaks to the brain in a language already highly organized and interpreted, instead of transmitting some more or less accurate copy of the distribution of light on the receptors. As a crude analogy, suppose we have a man watching the clouds and reporting them to a weather station.

Depression: The Differing Narratives of Couples in Couple Therapy / Rautiainen, Eija-Liisa -- Aaltonen, Jukka

Originální název: Depression: The Differing Narratives of Couples in Couple Therapy

In: The Qualitative Report. - Roč. 15, č. 1, s. 156-175. - 2010

How does the spouse of a person with depression take part in constructing narratives of depression in couple therapy? In this study we examined couples’ ways of co-constructing narratives of depression in couple therapy. Three couple therapy processes were chosen for the study, one spouse in each couple having been referred to an outpatient clinic for treatment for his/her depression. Four sessions from each systemic couple therapy process (Jones & Asen, 2000) were analyzed using narrative analysis. According to our findings, couples coconstructed narratives of depression, each in their own way. It is crucial to focus not only on the patient’s individual narrative of depression, but also on the depressed spouse’s narrative as an interactive part of the non-depressed spouse’s narrative, and a shared narrative created by the spouses about depression.

A Systemic Approach to Trauma / Woodcock, Jeremy

In: The Magazine for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice,. - Roč. 51, s. 2-4. - 2000

We all have ideas about trauma, however the International Classification of post- traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) defines a traumatic event as something outside the range of usual human experience (American Psychiatric Association, 1987). Because trauma has this quality of being both part of common experience and a unique event, it helps to deconstruct it so that we are sure what we are dealing with. Deconstruction offers both a critique of trauma and a map that can offer a guide to clinical intervention.

The Origin of the Solution-Focused Approach / Visser, Coert

In: International Journal of Solution-Focused Practices. - Roč. I, č. 1, s. 10-17.

The solution-focused approach to therapy and coaching has its roots in the work done by herapists in the second half of the twentieth century. This article discusses some important recursors, such as Milton Erickson and the Mental Research Institute. Further, it shows how the members of the Brief Family Therapy Center, led by Insoo Kim Berg and Steve de Shazer, eveloped the core of the solution-focused approach in the 1980s. Key concepts and publications are discussed and a description is given of how the team members worked together closely to find out what works in therapy.

Text nad context: narrative, postmodernism and cybernetics / Bertrando, Paolo

In: Journal of Family Therapy. - Roč. 22, č. 1, s. 83-103. - 2002

Currently, the systemic view in family therapy is being substituted by a postmodern narrative approach, while cybernetics tends to be considered an outdated perspective and its contribution to therapy overlooked.

Prejudiced about prejudice / Cecchin, Gianfranco -- Soderlund, John

It has always been a habit, he says, "to do something and reflect". That is as much the case now as it was way back in the early 1970's, during the nascent days of the Milan school of family therapy. Cecchin's co-revolutionaries at the time were Boscolo, Prata and Selvini Palazzoli, all of whom had been pointed in a psychoanalytic direction by their teachers.
