Systemic Thinking in Couple and Family Psychology Research and Practice / Stanton, Mark -- Welsh, Robert

In: Couple and Family Psychology: Research and Practice. - č. 1, s. 14-30. - 2012

Systemic thinking is central to the specialty of couple and family psychology (CFP). Eleven applications of systemic thinking (perceptual and cognitive structuring processes) are described to characterize the way couple and family psychologists think about research and practice. The application of systemic thinking to research is described in light of dynamic systems conceptualization and a systemic research approach that delineates six steps that identify collective variables, characterize attractor states, describe dynamic trajectories, identify points of transition, recognize control parameters, and manipulate control param- eters to identify core mechanisms of change is rehearsed and detailed.

The Evidence Base of Systemic Family and Couples Therapies / Stratton, Peter

In: The Association for Family Therapy & Systemic Practice. - - 2011

Systemic family and couples therapy (SFCT) has evolved into a variety of forms to meet the needs of the people who come for therapy. Our clients differ not only by bringing the full range of psychological and relationship difficulties and the variety that our society has imaginatively created in family structures and relationships, but they also occupy the full life span and the great range of ethnic and other cultural variation that communities now contain. This review starts with an account of the basis of SFCT and explains why it offers a very different resource from all the other therapies, which strive to bring about change within individuals.

Vygotsky’s philosophy: Constructivism and its criticisms examined / Matthews, Robert -- Liu, Charlotte Hua

In: International Education Journal. - Roč. 6, č. 3, s. 386-399. - 2005

Criticisms have recently been voiced of constructivism, the leading metaphor of human learning since the 1970s. Inspired by inconsistencies in interpretations of constructivism in current literature, we examine the underlying epistemological beliefs of popular constructivist theories and their criticisms. We find that popular constructivist claims and criticisms, instead of being based on contrasting philosophical ideas, are similarly grounded on the dualist separatism of the human mind and the external world. We then present our interpretation of Vygotsky’s historical-dialectical-monist philosophy, through discussions of Vygotskyan concepts including social environment of learning, the role of language, and individual consciousness. The paper concludes that confusions about Vygotsky’s theory often arise from concepts taken literally and from the lack of appreciation of the general philosophical orientation underpinning his works.

The Therapist's Inner Conversation in Family Therapy Practice: Some Ideas About the Self of the Therapist, Therapeutic Impasse, and the Process of Reflection / Rober Peter

In: Family Proces. - č. 38, s. 209-228. - 1999

In this article, a distinction is made between the outer therapeutic conversation and the therapist's inner conversation. The therapeutic conversation is a circle of meaning in which both the therapist and the clients play a part. The therapist's inner conversation is described as a negotiation between the self of the therapist and his role. In this process of negotiation the therapist has to take seriously, not only his observations, but also what is evoked in him by these observations, that is, images, moods, emotions, associations, memories, and so on.

Bioantropologie: transdisciplinární projekt Gregory Batesona / Kučera, Marek

Praha: Katedra teorie kultury FF UK Praha, 2011.

Předmětem disertační práce je dílo anglo-amerického antropologa a kybernetika Gregory Batesona, které je v souladu s dánským biologem Jesperem Hoffmeyerem nahlíţeno jako příklad bioantropologického přístupu. Ten spočívá v přesvědčení, ţe mysl či duše představuje jeden z konkrétních projevů přírodního dění, a ţe toto dění samo má duševní charakter.

The integration of second order cybernetics, autopoiesis and biosemiotics / Brier, Soren

In: Cybernetics and Human Knowing. - Roč. 10, č. 1, s. 15-18.

In my view there are some very interesting commonalities between second order cybernetics, cognitive biology as based on autopoiesis and Sebeok’s Peircian semiotics. But there are also some interesting differences that lead me to the conclusion that they need each other.
